$1M Mega Millions ticket sold in N.J.

New Jersey's recent run of second-prize winners in large multi-state lottery games continued on Tuesday.

A ticket purchased somewhere in the Garden State for the $89 million Mega Millions drawing matched five numbers but not the Mega Ball and is worth $1 million.

State lottery officials will reveal where the lucky ticket was sold later Wednesday.

Tuesday's winning numbers were 9, 28, 40, 57 and 65. The Mega Ball was 2.

The Megaplier was 5X so if the winner spent and extra $1, he or she would have won $5 million.

No one across the country bought a ticket that had all the winning numbers, pushing Friday's jackpot to $97 million with a cash option of $63 million. The New Jersey ticket was the only one to match even five numbers.

Tuesday's drawing marked the third time this month someone who bought a ticket in New Jersey won at least $1 million in a lottery drawing.

The first two came in Powerball drawings — one on April 13 in Hammonton and the other April 9 in Verona.

The odds of a single ticket matching five numbers is 18,492,104 to 1. Mega Millions is played in 44 states plus Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

This evening's Powerball jackpot is valued at $227 million with a cash option of $150.8 million.
